Faces of renaissance Madonnas
2017 . 2018
In his surrealist period, during the 1970’s, in Amsterdam, Pintomeira was already influenced by the themes of the Renaissance painters, mainly those allusive to the Greek and Roman mythology. With this new series, his 4th related to the female face (Faces 2003, Other Faces 2010 and New Faces 2016), he returns to the Renaissance, producing now works strongly connected to the Madonna’s faces represented in religious paintings during this period.
With the title “Renaissance Faces”, Pintomeira introduces mixed media works on canvas, paper or cardboard glued to a PVC plate, using acrylics, photographs, collage, graphite and pastel. His impressive and energetic style is again present in the drawing with dense outlines, geometric figures, dashed lines, drippings and the graphic design. The painting was, at the beginning, monochromatic, with tones between the black and the white; later on, the artist brought to the composition some color shapes. The renaissance Madonna’s faces led him to the production of his 15th theme in a long artistic carrier, where we also can find the Photography and the Digital Art.
